TCL has commented that the story is false, and that their plans for the North American market have not changed, however they did indicate that the popularity of some models has been so great in North America, that smaller retailers have seen some ‘out of stock’ issues. As TV demand in North America (US) has been strong throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and some component shortages have limited full set production, we expect that TCL is facing similar issues with its own production and has likely put some customers on allocation, as have some other set manufacturers. Thus far we have not seen any indication that TCL has been removed intentionally from any physical retailer locations. As one of the best-selling low-end TVs we would find it surprising that they would be removed from B&M stores unless there was a a US government trade issue (none that we know of), although it would not surprise us to see stock outs in some locations given similar situations with other TV brands..

Chinese TV brand TCL (000100.CH) is known for providing ‘cost-effective’ TVs globally, and over the last few years has become one of the best-selling Chinese brands in North America. A recent story out of South Korea had indicated that TCL had been ‘delisted’ from major US stores, resulting in a substantial loss of sales and that TCL’s TVs were quickly being removed from store shelves. As far as we can see, retailer Best Buy (BBY) is still offering 37 different models from $130 for a 32” HD TV to $1,900 for a 75” 4K Mini-LED QD TV and Amazon (AMZN) is offering roughly 50 models from $130 to $1,800 for a 75” 4K UHD Roku (ROKU) TV, while Wal-Mart is offering ~70 models in roughly the same price range.
