Is the Galaxy Exploding?
Back in February, only weeks after Samsung (005930.KS) released its flagship Galaxy S25 series, quickly the CE press was filled with headlines about how poorly the new series was selling, with some predicting a full-blown failure. However by the end of June it seems that sales had picked up, with a total of 19.56m units shipped, up from 18.02m units for the previous year’s Galaxy S24 series. Samsung later released the Galaxy Edge (May 13), which if included in the S25 series numbers, would push total shipments to 20.22m units, although some are predicting poor sales for the Edge. We now hear that S25 series sales, by the end of July, have reached 3 million units in South Korea, ~two months ahead of the S24, making the S25 series a success, even with only 11/2 months of Edge sales included..
Samsung is expected to change the S Series lineup next year, with the potential to eliminate the s25 and replace it with an s26Pro and potentially drop the poorer selling SXX+, while maintaining the best-selling S25 Ultra. Much will depend on the price of the S26Pro, as it replaces the lowest price S series model and whether the Edge, which sits between the Ultra and the plus, can generate enough momentum to become a full pledged model.
